This film opens with a Karakia by Geraldine Carroll – Ngāti Hine, Ngāti Kahungunu, Te Ati Haunui-a-Pāpārangi,Rangitāne – and then introduced by Lagi Fale Solomona (pictured) from Mākoura College Whakaoriori Masterton.
Once a boggy wasteland, this five-hectare reserve has been transformed since 1993 into a flourishing native forest, thanks to the dedication of volunteers and local organizations.

From towering native trees to thriving birdlife, eels, and kōura in the waterways, the Reserve is full of life. Keep a keen eye out—you might spot a weta, a skink basking in the sun, or a gecko camouflaged in the undergrowth.
